Pastor Justin Adams & Minister Nytro Smith: Growing Faith and Impacting Newton County - Episode 24
Welcome to Episode 24 of The Town Square Podcast, where hosts Gabriel Stovall and Trey Bailey have a spirited and inspirational conversation about the state of the church and faith in Newton County. In this episode, we are joined by two dynamic leaders who are making a huge impact in our community—Pastor Justin Adams of New Life Praise Center and Minister Nytravious “Nytro” Smith of James Paschal Missionary Baptist Church.
Pastor Justin and New Life have experienced incredible growth over the last four years. From their humble beginnings on Stone Mountain Street, the church has expanded to a spacious new facility on Brown Bridge Road, currently serving over 1,000 attendees each Sunday and more than 2,500 partners. Their story is a testament to what can happen when faith, leadership, and community come together to create something powerful.
Minister Nytro, along with Pastor Stovall, has been a key leader in reinvigorating the congregation of "JP" (James Paschal) and affecting change in the community—especially among the younger generation. With their enthusiasm and dedication, they are reaching new heights of ministry and impacting countless lives in Newton County.
In this conversation, we dive into many important topics about faith and the church, including church growth, discipleship, outreach, and even fun topics like youth "lock-ins." We also take a deep dive into the conversation surrounding diversity in modern religion, a topic that often sparks debate in church circles—especially around the question of whether Sunday at 11am is still “the most segregated hour of the week.” Pastor Justin and Minister Nytro share their thoughts on navigating and embracing diversity, and discuss the cultural differences between traditionally "black church" and "white church" experiences.
One of the most powerful aspects of this conversation is the focus on unity. These two ministers emphasize the importance of building relationships with other faith leaders in the community, so that the church can continue its mission without isolation. It’s about working together to strengthen the bonds of faith and serve the people of Newton County in the best way possible.
Both of these churches are deeply engaged in local outreach, partnering with schools and nonprofit organizations to support the people of Newton County. We talk about how the changing demographics in our community and the population growth create unique opportunities for the church to be present and helpful, especially as new families move into the area.
With the Christmas holidays around the corner, the pastors also share what their churches are doing to celebrate the season and reach out to families in need. It’s a time of year when the church can make a real difference in people’s lives, and these leaders are taking full advantage of this opportunity.
